Olyu's World

The breeze was cool and soft on a warm day, the air laden with the humidity rising from the upturned soil. Above, the birds chirped out their various mating calls to each other, the sounds dancing on the wind from one bird to another. For an early Summer day, it was unusually pleasant outside, the heat of the season having not quite settled, yet. Light filtered down through the foliage of young trees, dappled across the dark expanse of dirt and mulch and illuminated even the dim space where the undergrowth sprouted up through the hard ground. It was peaceful in the forest, as it should be, as it had always seemed to be, and the world outside the line of trees was of no consequence. Beauty thrived here, observed and appreciated by the denizens of the forest's domain, undisturbed and unhurried.

This was Olyu's world.


Olyu was young, a curious adolescent not quite out of childhood. With dirty blackish-gray hair and dull brown eyes like mud, pale skin of a greyish-color most sickly for a living being, and if ever found sitting still, might look as one without life. Olyu was, however, very much alive and active, as though a spark that neither died away nor ignited into flame. A youth bursting with energy and excitement for all around, but unknown by any creature outside the treeline, and entirely alone within the forest where Olyu dwelled. Olyu was protector of the domain of the forest, and as old as the world itself. The trees forever youthful and budding with a new green growth, eternally unaging as Olyu.
