I realized that I'd never posted the ending to An Unexpected Discovery, so I went looking in my sketchbook for the last part of it, today. Apparently, I'd forgotten to do it, thinking I'd typed it up already or simply had decided not to post it. Well, I actually had considered leaving it unposted, due to the less-than happy ending, but I realized that if I always show my Sirenians as nice and gentle, no one will know what they're really like.

The truth is that I've written a few shorts around my Sirenians, and they're all sad ending stories or gruesome. I don't like fatal vore, but that's part of their nature and I'd be lying if I tried to show them otherwise. My Sirenians are cruel creatures, coldhearted hunters who will devour anything that moves. They'd even eat Mers or Sirens, should they encounter them outside of their mating times. Males of any species would be killed regardless, though their deaths are almost completely assured around mating times. Females, whether Mer, Siren, or Human, would have a better chance for surviving an encounter with one of these creatures, though the odds are best during mating times.

Young Sirenians tend to be more curious than cruel, though their hunting instincts and cold nature still show an influence in their personalities. While they're still likely to eat anything that moves, most of the things they put in their mouths are simply there out of curiosity or boredom. Adults, however, are ruthless, and if they put something in their mouth it will always end up in their stomach.
